Found out the reason my friend has been busy lately was because of internet dating. Now this is someone who needs no help. She used to model as a child and is showered with attention regularly. But she wanted to try it so she did. I asked which site. Match with all the players? Lavalife for freaks? Maybe eHarmony with its hint of desperation? Or Craiglist for cheapskates? So judgemental, she said. No, just Yahoo personals. And after a couple of frogs she got someone who looks like a Greek god; which seems to be all the rage now. You should try it she said. It has to work better than what you're doing now, she added. Ah-ha. "You'll meet someone you might never have met." But that's what's wrong about it, I said. I believe in chance and fate...which the internet somewhat eliminates. Sure you get mistaken identities like in Shakespere but that's unacceptable in, say, a profile. She tsk-tsked. "So you'll never try it?" Never. You have to stand for something, I said. "Going down with the ship?", she asked. "Yep." Walking along Sawtelle in West LA while waiting for a table at this place.
